Preparation for prayer

As we heed to the call to fast and pray for our nation and a true turning back to God, let us prepare our hearts.

Letter to parents 21.1 Why all this talk about community? 21.2 You are important
encouragement from Psalm 34:1-7:

(Please read and study the whole Psalm 34 as a family together. You will be encouraged. The Passion Translation is a good translation to read alongside.)

In the first 3 verses David praises God with exuberance and calls us to join him. Why? We find the answer in the rest of the Psalm.

in verses 4, 6 & 7

we read of God’s intervention in David’s difficult circumstances, his fears and troubles. He testifies in these verses that God heard him and took action, and helped him:

“I sought the Lord, and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears. This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him And delivers them.”

  • v. 4: “… He heard me and delivered me …”
  • v. 6: “… and the Lord heard him and saved him …”
  • v. 7: “The angel of the Lord encamps around all … and delivers them.”
call out to God:

God did not just deliver and save David. David first had to call out to God. v. 4: “I sought the Lord, and He heard me …” The Hebrew word darash is to frequent, this means to frequently go to God, again and again and again. v.7: “… all those who fear Him …” This speaks of the humble attitude of reverence before God.

2 Chronicles 7:14:

“I sought the Lord, and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears. This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him And delivers them.”

God is eager to help, save and bring revival to our beloved country, but He first waits for us to come with humble and sincere hearts seeking Him, turning away from our ways to Him.

Let us ask Holy Spirit to help us and walk with us these ten days to truly humble ourselves and seek God.

prayer:

I encourage you to start these ten days with breaking of bread, praise and thanksgiving, worship and prayer.
